Dead Sea Salt Scrubs – The Use of a Modern Miracle

At this point you are well informed about Dead Sea Salt, what are some of the things you can use it for and also where to get it and know you are getting the real thing.  Now here is the low down on my favorite way to use Dead Sea Salt – Scrubs!

First off let me tell you the reasons I love them and why I make my own as opposed to purchase pre-made scrubs.  The skin is the largest organ of the human body and very porous.  Although we often forget about our skin, things in our environment, and specifically things applied to our skin, go directly into our body like when we eat, drink and breathe.  Now the problem with this is that most cosmetic ingredients are completely unidentifiable and certainly things that we would not consider ingesting.  That is why I make my own dead sea scrubs and avoid scrubs with propylene (petroleum product) and other goodies.

So the next step is how to do this easily, inexpensively and with a great result.  The first thing to know is that the basis for any dead sea scrub is simply dead sea salt.  A scrub is complete unto itself in this state.  So if you have sensitive skin or really adore simplicity then you can dive right in, grab a small handful of salts and with a little water start a circular motion of rubbing anywhere on your skin.  For those of you who want a little zing lets zing it up!

This first ingredient to add really easily is an essential oil.  There are so many to chose from base it on your preferences as well as the qualities of the oil, as each flavor imparts wonderful qualities to it’s recipient.  A few examples are:

If you are happy mixing in a few drops of oil and stirring it up well then you can stop here, and if you want a little more we can continue from here.  The next luxurious ingredient is moisture.  You will be unlayering new and tender skin that is very permeable and will soak up any delicious oil that you feed it.  My two favorite oils are virgin olive oil as well as coconut oil.  Coconut oil is a tremendous super food and can not only be ingested, but also used on the skin and the hair as a moisturizer.

From here it is simply a matter of mixing the right portions of oil to salts to scent.  The general rule of thumb is a portion of 2 wet to 1 dry.  This is very simple – and truly that is the beauty of it!  Mix ingredients together using a bowl and spoon or a food processor, which will give you a very consistent and smooth texture, even breaking down courser salt.  You can prepare to your liking and even sneak over the sink and try it out as you mix it up using your hands to test your new Dead Sea Salt scrubs.  Once you have the perfect mix, cause as I said it should suite you and you really can’t go wrong, you can put it in a jar and use within a month or so.  It will likely keep for longer, but because oils oxidize over time it is best to use them when they are fresh.

These wonderful jars of luxury can make a beautiful gift to a friend or loved one and of course yourself.  Don’t be shy and use liberally as you like.  One more little tip is that if you are make a Dead Sea Salt scrub for your face be sure to use a finer sea salt and apply very gently.  Follow up with moisturizer to complete the process and have glowing skin!
